Vercingetorix
Vercingetorix is a Gaulish chieftain depicted in the opening pages of the Asterix series, symbolically surrendering to Julius Caesar. He appears briefly to establish the historical backdrop of Roman-occupied Gaul against which Asterix and his village's resistance unfolds.
Few comic characters can claim they've been humbling mighty conquerors since 1968, but Vercingetorix has that distinction — debuting in the very first issue of the beloved Asterix series under the masterful hands of René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. A Silver Age figure published across an remarkable 57-year span, this character has kept extraordinary company throughout, sharing pages with the likes of Asterix, Obelix, and Julius Cäsar himself. With 28 catalog appearances spread across Asterix, Asterix Mundart, and Asterix - Was für ein Fest!, and two key issues to their name, Vercingetorix is a small but genuinely collector-worthy presence in one of European comics' most enduring and cherished universes.
