Valkyrie
Valkyrie debuted as a villainous guise adopted by the Enchantress, who disguised herself as an Asgardian warrior to manipulate a group of female heroes against their male counterparts, the Avengers.
Born in the thick of Marvel's Silver Age, Valkyrie made her striking debut in The Avengers #83 (1970), brought to life by the legendary creative pairing of Roy Thomas and John Buscema. She emerged into a Marvel Universe already buzzing with titans β sharing those early pages with the likes of Goliath and the fearsome Skurge β which tells you right away this was a character dropped into serious company from the very first panel. Collected across Essential Avengers, the Marvel Masterworks, and the oversized glory of Marvel Treasury Edition, her appearances have been lovingly preserved for new generations of readers to discover. Nearly four decades of publication history give her a staying power well worth celebrating, and any Silver Age Marvel enthusiast hunting for a compelling, distinctive figure from that era of bold experimentation will find Valkyrie a genuinely rewarding deep dive.
