Who is Typhon?

Typhon is a villainous figure drawn from Greek mythology — a monstrous, storm-breathing titan and enemy of the gods — reimagined as a mystical threat in DC's universe, where he clashes with arcane champions like Doctor Fate and Nabu.

A mythic menace born in the pages of DC's Copper Age, Typhon made a striking entrance in the very first issue of Doctor Fate back in 1987, courtesy of comics legend Roy Thomas. Over a publishing span stretching all the way to 2018, this villain has haunted some of DC's most storied mystical and heroic corners, crossing paths with the likes of Doctor Fate, Nabu, Green Lantern, and Guy Gardner. Appearing in landmark collections like JSA by Geoff Johns and JLA / JSA: Virtue and Vice, Typhon may be a rare presence in the catalog, but every appearance carries the weight of a character who runs with DC's finest — and that debut issue alone makes this one a worthy addition to any serious collection.
