Quadratus
Quadratus is a minor Roman character appearing in the Asterix series, one of the many soldiers or officials who cross paths with the indomitable Gauls. Like most Roman background figures, he exists as comic fodder for the villagers' resistance against Caesar's empire.
A Roman face in a Gaulish world, Quadratus made his debut in 1974 β the Bronze Age of comics β under the legendary creative hands of RenΓ© Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, brought to German-speaking readers through Egmont Ehapa. Over nearly five decades, this supporting figure has kept remarkable company, sharing pages with beloved icons like Obelix, Idefix, and the indomitable village chief Majestix across series including Asterix Mundart and Idefix und die Unbeugsamen!. Eleven appearances may sound modest, but in the richly populated world of Asterix, every recurring face carries its own flavor β and Quadratus has quietly endured from the Bronze Age all the way into the 2020s, a testament to the timeless appeal of this corner of the comics universe.
