Lucinda Guthrie
Lucinda Guthrie is the matriarch of the large Guthrie family from rural Kentucky, mother to numerous mutant children including Sam (Cannonball) and Paige (Husk). An ordinary human herself, she raised her extraordinary family largely on her own after her husband's death in a mine accident.
Lucinda Guthrie made her comics debut in The New Mutants #42 in 1986, a creation of the legendary Chris Claremont alongside Jackson Guice and Kyle Baker, stepping onto the page right at the heart of Marvel's Copper Age. Over a remarkable 35-year span across titles like The Uncanny X-Men and beyond, she's woven into the fabric of the X-Men corner of the Marvel Universe, sharing pages with heavy-hitters like Wolverine and Logan alongside fellow Guthries including Paige and Josh. She may appear selectively in the catalog, but with an X-Men affiliation and a collector-recognized key issue to her name, Lucinda Guthrie is a meaningful piece of Marvel's mutant tapestry — the kind of character that rewards the dedicated reader digging deeper into the stories behind the stories.
