Who is Hitman?

Tommy Monaghan is a Gotham City hitman who gained low-level telepathy and X-ray vision after being bitten by an alien during the Bloodlines crossover event — abilities he puts to use taking contracts exclusively on other superhumans and criminals.

Garth Ennis and John McCrea launched Hitman in 1996, giving DC's modern era one of its most distinctive and darkly comic creations — a character whose own self-titled series became a cult favorite celebrated for its sharp wit and gritty Gotham atmosphere. Over a publishing span that stretched two decades, Hitman shared pages with some of the DCU's biggest names — Batman, Bruce Wayne, Wonder Woman, and The Flash among them — which speaks to a surprisingly broad footprint for a character born on the rougher edges of the DC universe. With appearances in JLA and DCU Heroes Secret Files alongside that beloved solo run, and at least one collector-recognized key issue to their name, this is a character whose catalog presence rewards the dedicated hunter. If you love the Ennis-McCrea creative partnership and the grittier corners of the DC Modern Age, Hitman is absolutely worth tracking down.
