Gizmo

Gizmo is a member of the Explorers of the Unknown, an action-adventure ensemble published by Archie Comics in 1989. Alongside teammates Spike, Red, Angel, Squint, and Wheels, Gizmo takes part in expeditions offering readers something far more adventurous than typical Riverdale fare.

Dreamed up by Rich Margopoulos and Rex Lindsey for Archie Comics in 1989, Gizmo is a Copper Age creation who found a home in the adventurous pages of Explorers of the Unknown — one of Archie's more inventive concepts of the era. Sharing those pages with a colorful cast including Spike, Red, Angel, Squint, and Wheels, Gizmo is part of an ensemble that gave Archie readers something a little more action-packed than the halls of Riverdale. With appearances stretching across digest collections and double digests well into 2013, this character enjoyed a surprisingly long shelf life for a corner of the Archie universe that not every collector has discovered — which makes tracking down those issues a genuinely rewarding hunt.
