Chance
Chance is a Marvel mercenary and professional assassin who hires himself out on a unique basis — he accepts no payment upfront, instead gambling his fee against the contract itself, taking nothing if he fails. This high-stakes business model brings him into repeated conflict with Spider-Man.
Debuting in Daredevil #246 in 1987, Chance arrived at the dawn of the Copper Age with a debut crafted by Jim Owsley and Tom Morgan. Over nearly four decades this character has proven surprisingly durable, turning up most frequently in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man and more recently All-New Venom, keeping dangerous company alongside the likes of Spider-Man, Electro, and Jack O'Lantern. With 23 catalogued appearances spanning 1987 to 2025, Chance is one of those rewarding deep-cut figures that rewards the curious collector — a persistent presence in Marvel's street-level corners who has clearly earned a staying place in the universe.
