About the series
Marvel’s Star Comics Magazine (1986–1988) packed thirteen issues with a rotating cast of licensed and original funny-animal characters, anchored by the mischievous cat Heathcliff and his pals Iggy Nutmeg, Top Dog, and the ever-grumpy Grandpa Nutmeg. The series was a showcase for the playful, cartoony style of artists Warren Kremer and Howard (Howie) Post, with writers Dave Manak, Michael Gallagher, and Lennie Herman keeping the gags light and kid-friendly. A short-lived but lively entry in Marvel’s 1980s all-ages line, it captures the era’s cheerful, slapstick energy.
