About the series
Marvel’s Monsters on the Prowl (1971–1974) revived the publisher’s 1950s and early-’60s monster anthology tradition, reprinting classic tales from titles like Tales of Suspense and Journey into Mystery for a new generation. Running 22 issues, the series drew on the talents of Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Carl Wessler as writers, with legendary artists Jack Kirby, Don Heck, and Steve Ditko bringing grotesque creatures and eerie scenarios to life. Though it didn’t launch new characters, it preserved a vital piece of Marvel’s pre-superhero identity, showcasing the imaginative monster stories that helped define the House of Ideas’ early voice.
