Floyd Gottfredson’s foundational run on Mickey Mouse for David McKay (1931–1934) established the newspaper strip’s classic, high-adventure tone across just four issues. Gottfredson both wrote and drew these early comic book reprints, which collected some of the most influential serials of the era, defining Mickey as a plucky, resourceful hero.
