Megaton

From 1983 to 1987, Megaton Comics’ self-titled series served as a scrappy, eight-issue showcase for a rotating cast of emerging indie talents, including Gary Carlson, Erik Larsen, and Richard "Grass" Green. Anchored by the heroic exploits of the powerhouse Megaton, the series wove through a cosmos populated by figures like Matthew Scott, Wally, and the alien Vanguard Thakka, with art often handled by Gary Thomas Washington and Angel Medina. Though short-lived, Megaton stands as a raw, early artifact of the 1980s black-and-white boom, capturing the kinetic energy and DIY ethos that would later define its creators’ more famous work.
