About the series
A modern French adaptation of the classic 16th-century Chinese novel, Le voyage en occident reimagines the epic journey of the monk Xuanzang and his three protectors as a lush, graphic novel series. Published by Xiao Pan from 2007 onward, this five-issue run is best known for the vivid, expressive artwork of French cartoonist Philippe Nicloux, whose dynamic style brings the fantastical trials and mythical creatures to life. By blending traditional Chinese lore with a distinctly European bande dessinée sensibility, the series offers a fresh, visually striking entry point into one of literature’s great adventure tales.
