About the series
Marvel’s Kull, the Conqueror (1971–1973) brought Robert E. Howard’s brooding prehistoric king to the four-color page, with a ten-issue run that paired the barbarian’s sword-and-sorcery exploits with the vivid storytelling of Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas. Artists Marie Severin and Ross Andru gave form to the savage, dream-haunted world of Valusia, where King Kull contended with scheming councilors like Tu and warriors such as Brule. Though short-lived, the series cemented Kull as a cornerstone of Marvel’s 1970s fantasy revival, bridging Howard’s prose with the emerging comic-book genre.
