Jughead's Jokes
For nearly 80 issues across the late 1960s and into the 1980s, Archie Comics served up a dedicated showcase for the Crown Prince of Riverdale’s deadpan wit and bottomless appetite. Jughead’s Jokes was a gag-a-go-go comic strip bonanza, leaning heavily on the talents of cartoonist Samm Schwartz and writers George Gladir and Frank Doyle to deliver single-page puns, sight gags, and classic Jughead mischief. While the core cast of Archie, Betty, Reggie, and Veronica all popped in for the punchlines, the series’ true stars were Jughead’s laconic one-liners and his loyal dog Hot Dog, making it a pure, unfiltered dose of the character’s signature humor. It remains an essential archive of the Silver Age Archie style at its silliest and most charming.
