About the series
From 2006 to 2010, Detroit Metal City was a chaotic, foul-mouthed comedy from RW Edizioni, following the secret double life of a sweet, folk-music-loving young man who becomes the demonic frontman of an extreme death metal band. Written and drawn by Kiminori Wakasugi, this 10-issue series gleefully skewers the music industry and the absurdity of genre personas, contrasting its protagonist's gentle true nature with his terrifying onstage alter ego. A cult hit for its unapologetically crude humor and sharp satirical take on heavy metal culture, it remains a standout example of how comics can explore the gap between who we are and who we pretend to be.
