Launching in 1997 from Semic S.A., Darkness ran for 30 issues, weaving a supernatural saga centered on a cursed family legacy. The series is most closely associated with writers Sophie Viévard, Scott Lobdell, and Malachy Coney, alongside artists Clarence Lansang, Joe Benitez, and Marc Silvestri, who defined its dark, kinetic visual style. A key entry in the Top Cow universe, it established a brooding tone that influenced the publisher's horror-tinged action comics of the era.
