Captain Atom

Steve Ditko’s signature angular art and cosmic weirdness defined this 12-issue Charlton run (1965–1967), which followed the atomic-empowered Captain Atom—alter ego of scientist Allen Adam—through government intrigue and bizarre super-science. Ditko, alongside writers Dave Kaler and Joe Gill, introduced the shadowy Ghost and the heroine Nightshade (Eve Eden), seeding a moody, Cold War-era superhero universe that would later influence generations of creators. Though brief, the series stands as a foundational work of Charlton’s superhero line, showcasing Ditko’s early mastery of kinetic, psychologically charged action.
