About the series
During World War II and into the postwar era, DC Comics introduced the Boy Commandos, a multinational team of young soldiers fighting alongside adult leader Rip Carter. Anchored by the dynamic, explosive artwork of Jack Kirby—who also co-wrote many of the series' 36 issues—the book blended patriotic adventure with Kirby's signature kinetic energy, later joined by artists Curt Swan and Carmine Infantino. Featuring a colorful cast including Brooklyn, Alfy Twidgett, and the canine Captain Tootsie, the series stood out as a kid-focused wartime comic that evolved into a lighthearted adventure title before concluding in 1949.
