About the series

In the early 2010s, DC Comics launched Batwing as part of its "The New 52" initiative, introducing readers to David Zavimbe, the Batman of Africa. Written primarily by Judd Winick, with later arcs by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, the series paired its hero with artists like Marcus To and Ben Oliver for a gritty, globe-trotting take on the Dark Knight mythos. Over its five-issue run, the series stood out for bringing a fresh cultural perspective to the Batman family, exploring crime-fighting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
