About the series
Joe Madureira’s Battle Chasers launched at Image Comics in 1998 with a bold, anime-infused visual style that made it an instant sensation. The series follows a young girl named Calibretto, who wields a giant mechanical gauntlet, as she searches for her missing father alongside a cast of misfits and warriors. Though only four issues were released in its initial run, the book’s lush, kinetic art and world-building left a lasting mark on the industry. Madureira’s tenure as both writer and artist cemented the series as a cult touchstone of late-1990s fantasy comics.
