Abe Sapien: The Drowning

In 2008, Dark Horse launched Abe Sapien: The Drowning, a five-issue miniseries that gave the B.P.R.D.’s amphibious agent his first starring solo story. Written by Mike Mignola with art by Jason Shawn Alexander, the tale sends Abe to a sunken church off the coast of Russia, where a mysterious drowning leads him into a confrontation with a dark, ancient force. This series marks a key expansion of the Hellboy universe, deepening Abe’s character and setting the stage for his later, more prominent role in the larger Mignolaverse.
