About the series
J. M. DeMatteis and Mike Ploog launched Abadazad in 2004 as a CrossGen fantasy series, blending prose and comics in a story of a young girl who discovers a magical, storybook world. The series' three issues establish a heartfelt, metafictional journey, drawing on Ploog's lush, fairy-tale visuals and DeMatteis's lyrical storytelling. Though cut short by CrossGen's collapse, Abadazad remains a distinctive, creator-driven work that bridges classic children's literature and modern comic sensibilities.
