School Friend #177 is an anthology issue featuring "Secret Member of the Silent Three," in which Betty Roland, Joan Derwent, and Peggy West, members of a secret school society, trace an ancient metal beacon hidden on an island that holds vital meaning for Joan's cousin; their investigation is complicated when the unpopular prefect Miriam Porter becomes suspicious of their activities and attempts to expose them. The issue also contains "Lonely Boy of Lonely Isle" by Hazel Armitage, following a girl named Lynne who discovers a mysterious boy named Rolfe living alone on an island and uncovers the secret he has hidden beneath a tarpaulin in a beached boat. Additionally, "Nina—The News Reel Girl" by Jane Preston depicts Nina Taylor, a photographer for the Maybank Film Company, navigating professional challenges when her employer insists she accompany him on filming assignments against her preferences.
