Written by Otto Binder and illustrated by Irv Novick, the story follows the wand’s deadly curse as it turns on those who misuse it—first the thieves, then a cab driver and racketeer named Dippy Dugan, before Steel Sterling finally returns it to the museum. The cover by Harry Sahle captures the tale’s eerie, vintage charm.
When Apollo Bates and Muley steal from a museum, they unwittingly unleash the cursed Wand of Weirdness—once wielded by Merlin himself. The moment Apollo grabs the scepter to fight off a guard, the ancient magic turns against him, dooming both villains in grotesque fashion. The wand’s curse then follows a cab driver and racketeer named Dippy Dugan, who meets a fate as bizarre as his greed. Steel Sterling eventually recovers the artifact and returns it to the museum, where it belongs.
