In Zip Comics #45 (1944), young orphan Reuben Reuben stumbles upon the ancestral castle of his namesake lineage—only to find it haunted by a spectral parade of past Reuben Reubens, each with their own super-powered legacy. With the magic phrase "Hey, Rube!", he transforms into Red Rube, wielding the combined might of his ghostly kin to take on a Nazi sabotage cell. Bill Vigoda handles both art and inks for the interior, while Harry Sahle provides the eerie cover.

The ghosts are all named "Reuben Reuben," and they grant him special powers, which he uses to fight crime.
