Young King Cole #7 is a detective anthology containing 52 pages of stories. "The Phantom Thief" by Al Huston follows Private Detective Greg Mason protecting Mrs. Hazel Van Norton's jewel pendant at a gala; when a thief attempts to steal it via a ladder escape, Mason deduces the theft was an inside job orchestrated through a false phone call and bogus props. Another story features Young King Cole himself solving a case involving a criminal named Phillips and his animal companions, with Cole's small animal friends helping to apprehend the suspects during a rooftop confrontation. The issue also includes "Eyewitness," a text story about a photographer documenting a gang hideout during a police raid on the West Side.
