Young Eagle, a skilled Indian warrior, infiltrates a wagon train led by Dave Gandy under cover of darkness to gather intelligence for his tribe. After discovering that Gandy is transporting military supplies and planning a night march through Needle Pass to reach the Indian Reserve, Young Eagle reports back to his people. When a traitor named Injun reveals Young Eagle's spying to the Army, Young Eagle pursues the traitor on horseback while the cavalry prepares to intercept the wagon train. The story climaxes with military personnel discovering a dead body at Sage Canyon and organizing a response to prevent the wagon train's passage through Indian territory.
