X-Men / Fantastic Four #3
In this pivotal 2005 crossover, the X-Men and Fantastic Four collide when a shared cosmic radiation event transforms four X-Men into beings with powers mirroring the FF—Wolverine gains stretching limbs, Emma becomes stone-skinned, Gambit ignites with flame, and Nightcrawler turns invisible. As the two teams struggle to contain the sudden chaos, the FF and remaining X-Men must face their former allies, now dangerously altered and aggressive. With the Brood descending upon Earth, tensions rise and alliances are tested in a story that reshapes the mutant and superhero landscape. Written by Akira Yoshida and illustrated by Pat Lee and Edwin Garcia, with Rob Ruffolo’s colors and Dave Sharpe’s lettering, the cover by Pat Lee captures the moment of collision in bold, dynamic detail.

Four of the X-Men and two of the FF have been bathed in the same kind of cosmic radiation that originally created the Fantastic Four as they crash to Earth. As their teammates rush to the scene, they find that Sue and Ben are all right, but the X-Men have gained powers similar to the FF on top of their mutant abilities and it has made them violent. Wolverine has stretching powers, Emma has turned rocky, Gambit has flame powers and Nightcrawler turns invisible. The FF and the remaining X-Men battle their former friends and capture three of them, but Wolverine escapes. The Brood arrive on earth.
