In "Fired Gun," Wyatt Earp is called to Abilene to help rid the town of gunmen who have taken over. A man named Kolb initially orders Earp to leave town, but after Earp demonstrates his authority, Kolb admits he hired Earp along with other honest men to fight the outlaws. When gunfire erupts, Earp pursues the attackers on horseback. The story then shifts to a Texas Ranger hunting Jade Watson, a outlaw, in the town of Pecos, where the Ranger learns that Jade Watson killed his own brother and now fears that anyone who knows this secret will be killed, making the Ranger reluctant to share information about Watson's whereabouts.
