“Tunnel of Terror”

In "Tunnel of Terror," Lone Bear arrives in town carrying a heavy bag of gold meant for his tribe’s supplies—only to be ambushed by two bandits eager to learn its source. With the gold mine tied to the Roy Zelkey ranch, the outlaws plot to frame Zelkey’s son for horse theft, hoping to clear the way for their own illegal mining. Written by Eric Freiwald and Robert Schaefer and illustrated with bold, dynamic detail by Russ Manning—pencils, inks, and letters all by the same hand—this 1959 issue from Trans-Tasman Magazines delivers a tense Western tale of greed, deception, and the perilous journey through the desert.

Lone Bear comes to town with a large bag of gold to buy supplies for his tribe. Two bandits ambush him and force him to tell where he got the gold. The gold mine is on the Roy Zelkey ranch and the two come up with a scheme to frame Zelkey's son for horse stealing, so that there would be no one at the ranch to stop them from mining the gold.
