☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue features the debut of The Flame Girl, who burns away a Nazi gun shield in hand-to-hand combat with a German soldier. Another story follows U.S. Jones writing a history of America in blazing action. A third story involves a confrontation between characters including Dan Barrister and an antagonist named Yarko, with a mysterious teething ring serving as a plot device. The final story depicted shows protagonists attempting to stop saboteurs from destroying canal locks to cut off the Atlantic Fleet from the Pacific.
A year after an explorer's death in the Arctic, his ghostly form returns to exact vengeance on a rival—but Dr. Fung and his assistant Dan Barrister soon suspect the apparition is far more solid than supernatural. With a fishing spear as the murder weapon and a houseful of suspects who've all ventured to the frozen north, the detective must uncover who's impersonating the dead man and why, armed only with a cursed diary and a clever bit of mirror work.
Yarko uses his mastery of oriental magic to thwart a criminal plot when he encounters a man fleeing Mike Martin's gang—a ruthless outfit willing to kill to protect their secrets. After a series of magical interventions, Yarko confronts Martin directly at his office and uses his enchantments to expose the villain's theft of a million dollars from the city treasury. With truth and justice on his side, Yarko ensures that Martin and his conspirators face the consequences of their crimes.
Patty O'Day witnesses a hit-and-run accident and becomes suspicious when she spots a man trying to buy a dangerous drug at a local pharmacy—leading her to tail him straight into the lair of a criminal ring. Held prisoner in their hideout, Patty uncovers a ruthless insurance scam: the crooks are poisoning homeless men, running them down with a truck, and collecting on fake policies. With quick thinking and a well-placed camera, she gathers evidence and fights back against the gang while her partner Ham closes in on their operation from the outside.
