In Wolverine: Vapen X, Professor Thornton recruits personnel for a secret project, kidnapping Logan to transform him into the ultimate living weapon—Vapen X. With his mutant healing factor, Logan undergoes a brutal procedure to encase his skeleton in adamantium, gaining retractable claws and a hidden remote control implanted in his skull. Though he appears to be under the control of a secret financier, the events that unfold are not what they seem. Professor Thornton rekryterar personal till ett hemligt projekt och kidnappar Logan för att förvandla honom till det ultimata levande vapnet, Vapen X. Eftersom Logan är mutant med läkeförmåga görs ett ingrepp där man klär in hans skelett i adamantium, för att göra honom oförstörbar. I processen får Logan även utfällbara klor. Thornton implanterar även en fjärrkontroll i Logans huvud. Plötsligt bryter sig Logan loss och börjar döda alla som arbetar med projektet, fjärrstyrd av den hemlige finansiären. Uppgörelsen är dock bara ett falskt inplanterat minne. Men Logan hämnas ändå och vandrar iväg.
