Wolverine #37
In "Fall Back & Spring Forward," Wolverine is torn through time by a storm that hurls him into pivotal moments of his past, clashing with Deathstrike in a battle that spans decades. As Pierce nears completion of his robotic enforcers, the fight for survival becomes a race against both history and the future. Written by Larry Hama and brought to life with dynamic art by Marc Silvestri, inks by Dan Green, and colors by Glynis Oliver, this 1991 issue delivers a pulse-pounding journey through Wolverine’s timeline—cover by Marc Silvestri and Dan Green.

- First appearance of Albert, a synthetic android built by Donald Pierce to physically duplicate Wolverine and serve as lethal bait, activated for the first time in this issue.
- First appearance (in an inanimate state, suspended in a tank of gelatin) of Elsie-Dee, a child-shaped android whose body is largely constructed from plastic explosives; her name is a pun on 'LCD.'
- The issue is the concluding chapter — Part 3 of 3 — of the 'Blood and Claws' arc (titled 'Fall Back and Spring Forward!'), in which Wolverine and Puck are flung through a time vortex into the Spanish Civil War of 1937 before returning to the present.
- Bonebreaker's programming error — accidentally granting Elsie-Dee maximum artificial intelligence instead of a child-level intellect — is established in this issue's b-plot, setting up the entire subsequent Albert-and-Elsie-Dee character arc across #38–43.
- Supporting cast includes Puck (Eugene Judd) of Alpha Flight, Lady Deathstrike (Yuriko Oyama), Donald Pierce, Bonebreaker, Spiral, and a cameo by Energizer (Katie Power); Ernest Hemingway and Eric Blair (pen name of George Orwell) appear as fictional historical figures in the Civil War sequences.
- The issue was reprinted in: Wolverine by Larry Hama & Marc Silvestri Vol. 1 (Marvel, 2013, recolored with new trade dress); True Believers: Iron Man 2020 — Albert & Elsie-Dee #1 (Marvel, April 2020); and Wolverine Epic Collection Vol. 3: Blood and Claws (Marvel, 2021).
- Elsie-Dee later appeared as a character in the Sega Genesis video game Wolverine: Adamantium Rage, representing one of the few instances where characters introduced in the Hama run crossed into other media.
- The Grand Comics Database records the on-sale date as January 8, 1991; GoCollect and Marvel.com list the publication date as February 28, 1991 — the difference reflects the standard gap between newsstand on-sale and official cover/indicia dates.
