Wolverine #314
In "Covenant Part 1," Wolverine grapples with fragmented memories of Melita as Vanessa abruptly reenters his life with a dire warning: the Dreaming Maiden has awakened, and the mysterious Covenant is hunting her. With no clear allies and a past he can’t fully recall, Logan’s search leads him to Elsa Bloodstone—only to be shot in the face when she realizes he isn’t here to kill. Written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Paul Pelletier, with inks by Dave Meikis, colors by Rain Beredo, and letters by Cory Petit, this issue’s cover by Mike Del Mundo captures the tension of a man caught between memory and mission.

Wolverine is trying to work things out with Melita (Dr. Rot erased his memories of her) when Vanessa shows up to interrupt the proceedings. She tells Logan that the Dreaming Maiden has awoken and the members of the Covenant are hunting her for their own dark purposes. On Wolverine’s first stop in finding the girl, he encounters Elsa Bloodstone who is also looking for the Dreaming Maiden. When she finds out Wolverine doesn't want to kill their quarry, however, Elsa shoots him in the face and takes off.
