Winds of Winter #1
"Winds of Winter" #1 (2001, Antarctic Press) delivers a haunting, visually rich fantasy tale from writers Gianluca Piredda and Roberto Di Scala, with all interior art, inks, colors, and letters by Stefano Cardoselli. In a land where death is a summoned force, a brooding figure arrives at the Valley of Souls to carry out his grim duty—only to falter when faced with the beauty of Isabelle, whose fate is already written in the stars. The cover, a striking piece by Bryan Talbot, captures the story’s melancholic gravity, setting the tone for a tale where love and death are bound by an inescapable, tragic design.

In a fantasy land... Death arrives at a castle in the Valley of Souls. He's summoned by his brother (a chief god?) to slay a village. Death reaps human souls, but can't bring himself to kill the lovely Isabelle, sparing her life. Brother sends Love to slay Isabelle. The irony: having fallen for Death, she was fated to commit suicide for love. Thus her soul goes to the "Dark Realm" forever. And Death is given a list of more souls to reap.
