In "The Winged Gods of Walla-Habi," Wild Boy helps Prince Daro overcome his cowardice by training him in jungle survival and combat, teaching him to face his fears and master the spear so he may confront the winged gods of Walla-Habi seeking revenge. In "The White Robe of Courage," Wild Boy encounters a conspiracy involving mysterious contacts and the "Winged Gods of Walla-Habi," leading to confrontations that reveal a plot requiring intervention, while elsewhere in the jungle a mother ape adopts an orphaned human child, naming him Keeto and raising him to become a powerful ally for the tribe.
In "The Mountains of the Moon," we explore one of Africa's most remarkable natural wonders: the legendary peaks of North Tanganyika, crowned by the towering Kibo at nearly 20,000 feet. This 1951 feature reveals the reality behind the fictional fame of these mountains, showing readers what makes this climb both a genuine test of endurance and a stunning feat of human achievement.
When a severe drought grips the jungle, Wild Boy rallies the animals to share the precious water at Twin Rock, only to have the Wazumi tribe, led by Chief Taaba and the sorcerer M'Nigo, violently seize the watering hole for themselves. Wild Boy must convince the warring factions that survival depends on cooperation rather than conquest—or risk watching the jungle tear itself apart.
Wild Boy encounters Lago, the Chief's son, cast out from his tribe for lacking courage—and takes it upon himself to teach the disgraced youth that bravery isn't recklessness, but facing danger with understanding. When a dangerous bull hippo threatens both the jungle and Lago's village, the young prince must choose between redemption and despair in "The White Robe of Courage." With Wild Boy's faith in him and his falcon Kaw at his side, Lago discovers what it truly means to earn the white robe of his people.
Joe Barton gets a desperate midnight visit from a frightened native named Subi, who speaks of flying gods and gold hidden in the mysterious Walla-Habi volcano—but before he can say more, Subi is brutally silenced. Taking up the case with Subi's brother Sumi, Joe uncovers a tangled plot: two white men have been posing as divine beings to exploit an island's natives and plunder the volcano's true treasure. With a Navy lieutenant's help and his own nerve, Joe ventures to the volcano's hidden grotto to face the winged guardians and stop the criminals before they can claim their prize.
