This anthology issue features two main stories: "Buckskin Benson, Scout of the Old West," in which outlaws planning to drop dynamite on a rockslide to trap lawman Cotton are foiled by Benson and his allies, with the powder instead destroying the outlaws' own operation; and a story following Leo Hooker's desperate survival trek across The Oven, a harsh desert landscape, where he struggles with extreme heat, dehydration, and disorientation before finally collapsing. A third story depicts a cavalry sergeant testing trooper Allard's fighting ability after witnessing an incident, leading to a sparring match that impresses the sarge and reveals Allard's father once had a big ranch in the area.
