About this Issue

Werewolf by Night: Red Band #10 serves as the closing chapter of Marvel's first dedicated Red Band horror ongoing — a ten-issue run that deliberately pushed Jack Russell back toward the brutal, monster-magazine spirit of the character's 1970s roots. The finale pays off an arc-long conflict with Lilith by having Jack physically destroy the new Darkhold and use its power to restore free will to every werewolf under her thrall, which is a meaningful narrative beat given how often the Darkhold has served as a recurring curse in Russell's history. The issue also re-establishes Dracula's old Transylvanian castle as a sanctuary for a newly formed pack — Jack Russell, Jake Gomez, and the returning Lissa Russell — quietly setting the table for the next chapter of Marvel's interconnected horror corner. As the capstone of the inaugural Red Band ongoing, it demonstrated that the mature-readers, polybagged format could sustain a full character arc, helping pave the way for subsequent Red Band titles like Punisher: Red Band and Daredevil: Unleash Hell.

History

The Red Band series launched in August 2024, written by Jason Loo — who had already established his take on the character in the Werewolf by Night: Blood Hunt one-shot — with pencils by Sergio Dávila, inking by JP Mayer, colors by Alex Sinclair, letters by VC Joe Sabino, and covers by E.M. Gist, under editor Devin Lewis. Marvel positioned the book as the character's most uncompromising solo run in his fifty-year publishing history, polybagging every issue with a Parental Advisory rating to signal its explicit content. Loo has said in interviews that his editorial team actively encouraged him to push the violence further, drawing inspiration from Marvel's classic 1970s horror magazines like Vampire Tales and Monsters Unleashed. Issue #10 brought in penciler Sergio Dávila for the finale after Ton Lima had handled art duties on the mid-series Lilith introduction arc.

  • Released May 28, 2025; written by Jason Loo, penciled by Sergio Dávila, cover by E.M. Gist — the same core team that launched the series in August 2024.
  • Issue #10 is the series finale — the ten-issue run (August 2024–June 2025 cover date) concluded here, making it the last chapter of the first Red Band ongoing series at Marvel.
  • Jack Russell destroys the newly reconstituted Darkhold by tearing it apart after using it to banish Lilith's Lilin army and restore autonomy to all werewolves under her mind control.
  • Emperor Doom (Victor von Doom in his Infamous Iron Man-era role as ruler) appears and personally banishes Lilith to Hell, marking a notable intersection of Marvel's political and supernatural corners.
  • Doctor Voodoo (Jericho Drumm), Elsa Bloodstone, and Jake Gomez all fight alongside Jack Russell in the climactic battle — cementing the series' ensemble approach to Marvel's horror characters.
  • The closing pages reveal Lissa Russell — Jack's sister, transformed into the Were-Demon by Night — arriving at Dracula's castle, answering her brother's howl and establishing the new pack dynamic teased as the setup for the next Marvel horror event.
  • The Hood (Parker Robbins) abandons Lilith mid-battle, a character turn that closes out his role as her enforcer across the second half of the series.
  • The entire ten-issue run was later collected in the trade paperback Werewolf by Night: Red Band — The Howling Tome, which includes this issue as its conclusion.
