“The Fleabite”

In "The Fleabite," a chilling tale from 1954, a young boy named Jo insists he’s seen a monstrous creature called Curflug—a being that only he can perceive and that he claims killed his friend and father. Written by Ken W. Fitch and illustrated by Don Heck, the story unfolds with haunting simplicity as Jo’s desperate warnings fall on deaf ears, leading to his removal by authorities who believe he’s the killer. The tension mounts when Curflug finally appears, not as a distant nightmare, but as a direct threat to the boy’s safety—cover by Don Heck.
