The series was originally solicited as an ongoing title but was quietly reconfigured into a five-issue limited series by the time its final chapter was solicited, a change that X-Men Group Editor Tom Breevoort publicly attributed to insufficient marketplace support. Writer Joe Casey, whose earlier Marvel work includes a notable run on Uncanny X-Men as well as Cable and Iron Man: The Inevitable, returned to the X-line specifically for this project; artist ChrisCross, who got his start at DC's Milestone imprint on titles like Blood Syndicate, joined as the series' sole interior artist. The cover for issue #4 was provided by ChrisCross and colorist Yen Nitro, with Steve Skroce providing the variant cover; inker Mark Morales also contributed to the interiors.
