Weapon X-Men #2
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeWeapon X-Men #2 marks the first appearance of the Wolverines of Mass Destruction (WMDs) — Baron Strucker's army of adamantium-laced Life Model Decoys programmed with AI copies of Wolverine's berserker rage — a concept that writer Joe Casey described as a significant evolution of the classic LMD concept into something uniquely terrifying within Wolverine's corner of the Marvel Universe. The issue deepens the thematic spine of the five-issue limited series: that every great team needs a nemesis built specifically to mirror and counter them, with Strucker's WMDs serving as a dark-matter reflection of the Weapon X-Men themselves. As the second chapter of the series titled 'Tsumami,' it escalates the stakes set in issue #1 by moving the conflict beyond the One World Under Doom event framework and into standalone Weapon X mythology. The introduction of the WMDs here also serves as the narrative bridge that will ultimately transform Strucker into Weapon Exile, a new permanent villain Casey positioned as the team's answer to Magneto for the X-Men or Ultron for the Avengers.

Joe Casey pitched the Weapon X-Men concept to Marvel in the spring of 2024, but an editorial transition in the X-office delayed the project by several months before it finally launched in February 2025. Casey has described the series' creative ambition in terms of 'blockbuster comics' — a deliberate attempt to demonstrate what the superhero medium can do that film and games cannot — and the WMDs introduced in issue #2 were planned from the very beginning of that pitch as the first major concept drop of the series. Casey and ChrisCross had collaborated before on smaller-scale projects, but Weapon X-Men represented their largest shared canvas to date. The issue was edited under Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and carries a Rated T+ designation.
