☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis issue contains two war stories. The first follows an aerial mission where Allied pilots engage Nazi bombers, with Lieutenant Beresford successfully destroying enemy aircraft despite damage to his own plane and the loss of his fellow pilots' aircraft. The second story, "The Smell of Fear," depicts Allied soldiers defending the French village of Villemont from Nazi occupation, with the troops hidden in an underground headquarters preparing foxholes and defensive positions while facing the threat of execution if discovered by German forces searching the village.
When the S.S. Redgar rests on the Baltic seafloor, Ensign Rogal and his team of Navy divers face an impossible mission: plant explosives on a hidden Nazi cruiser while fending off enemy frogmen in the murky depths. As the operation spirals into brutal underwater combat and Rogal takes a beating that threatens to derail everything, it falls to his men to push through exhaustion and injury to complete the job.
Sgt. Robie supervises a machine gun placement at Nak Phong with three South Vietnamese soldiers—Hoc, Ti, and Luan—but their nervous, fumbling behavior troubles him as the threat of Viet Cong attack looms. When fear spreads through the nearby village and suspicion grows, the sergeant must act fast to uncover a deadly betrayal before the gun is turned against the very people it was meant to protect.
When a Nazi attack catches Captain Baird frozen with fear during the Battle of the Bulge, Major Connett witnesses the moment and arrests him for cowardice under fire—leaving Baird stripped of his command and facing court-martial. Trapped in a barn with wounded soldiers and French civilians while German forces close in, Baird must prove whether he's truly the coward he appeared to be or a leader capable of rallying his men when it matters most.
