An anthology of crime stories featuring "Leg Work," in which detectives arrest a suspect based on a microscope sighting and discover the killer operates through a woman named Loretta Marsin, who receives a six-month reformatory sentence for her role in a payroll robbery despite her youth and lack of prior record. A second story, "The Killer Wore a Smile," follows private investigator Dan Dennis as he pursues the mysterious "Smiling Killer" after receiving an urgent phone call from a reporter named Pete, leading Dennis to a dangerous confrontation in the criminal underworld.
