“The Icy Mystery”

In "The Icy Mystery," Woody Woodpecker’s envy of TV star Rod Rockcliff leads him to a dramatic makeover—complete with a topknot and new duds—only to be mistaken for the celebrity and kidnapped by a pair of crooks demanding a ransom. Written by Vic Lockman and illustrated by Joe Messerli, this 1980 Western Publishing classic captures Woody’s misadventure with classic slapstick flair, all wrapped in a cover by Frank McSavage.

Irked and ignored while Winnie lavishes adoring praise on her TV star hero Rod Rockcliff, Woody does some muscle-building exercises and adopts a new hair (topknot) style and clothing to make himself look like Rod Rockcliff. The makeover exceeds all expectations, as a pair of ransom-seeking kidnappers snatch Woody mistaking him for the beloved celebrity.
