“How Green Was My Lettuce”

In "How Green Was My Lettuce," Carl Barks delivers a delightfully devious caper as gophers—secretly working for the Beagle Boys—begin undermining Scrooge's Money Bin. With the bin's weight now a liability, Scrooge swaps his gold coins for paper money, only to find his fortune in the crosshairs of a tunneling scheme. Disguised as lettuce farmers, Scrooge and Donald make a bold getaway in a truck packed with greenery and cash, all while Carl Barks' signature art and storytelling bring the chaos to life—cover by Carl Barks.

Gophers undermine the foundation of Scrooge's Money Bin, and he has the coins exchanged for bills to reduce the bin's weight. The gophers belong to the Beagle Boys, who are planning to slide the bin down a tunnel and into a pit on their property. When the plot is discovered, Scrooge and Donald disguise themselves as lettuce farmers and drive out of town in a truck filled with lettuce that conceals Scrooge's paper money.
