Walt Disney's Vacation Parade #3
This third volume in Gemstone's Vacation Parade series collects a selection of classic Disney comic stories originally published in the 1960s and 1970s, featuring Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and other beloved characters in summer-themed adventures. The collection highlights the work of legendary Disney artists like Carl Barks and Paul Murry, offering a nostalgic look at the lighter, seasonal side of the Disney comic universe.
In "The Terror of the River!!," Fethry’s wild obsession with conquering Niagara Falls in a barrel takes a chaotic turn, sending Donald Duck and an increasingly exasperated ranger tumbling over the edge—again. Written by Dick Kinney and illustrated by Al Hubbard, with vibrant colors by Scott Rockwell and crisp lettering by Willie Schubert, this 2006 Gemstone adventure captures the classic Disney chaos with a splash of absurdity. The cover, a dynamic duo of Bob Grant and Rick Keene, perfectly captures the moment of impending disaster.
When Donald Duck’s sneezes at an auction are mistaken for bids, he and his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie find themselves unexpectedly sailing down the Ohio River in a houseboat. Their peaceful trip turns chaotic when they spot a monstrous serpent looming in the water—only to discover it’s an elaborate submarine, its captain delighting in the thrill of scaring travelers.
Fethry Duck’s latest scheme—riding a barrel over Niagara Falls—unintentionally turns Donald Duck and a very put-upon Ranger Owl into human cannonballs. With every failed stunt, the chaos spills into the tourist crowd and even a laundromat, leaving one kid wide-eyed and a guy in a clean shirt utterly bewildered.
