The newlyweds Richard and Sylvia Porter are honeymooning on the beach. A crone sitting by the sea predicts Sylvia's death for the following day. She is indeed killed by a runaway truck. Richard wants to join his wife in death, but the crone sets his date to forty years in the future. Richard swims out to sea, drowns, but is miraculously saved - and has to live his full life span.
