Vigilante #3
In "Out of the Night," Bruce Jones and Dustin Nguyen delve into the haunted past of the Vigilante as he confronts a traumatic memory of his brother’s death and a brutal massacre at a scout camp—revealed through hypnosis. With Edward Culkins, the former scout leader, now released from prison, Detective Sovereign watches closely, knowing the Vigilante’s rage could be reignited. The issue’s haunting atmosphere and emotional weight are brought to life by Nguyen’s evocative art and Randy Mayor’s subtle colors, with Michael Golden’s cover capturing the tension in a single, striking image.

Justin uses hypnosis to help the Vigilante delve deep into a childhood trauma where his brother and cub scout pack were slaughtered by their scout leader. The only reason he had survived was because he had snuck off to the city and come back to the camp after the killing was over. Ironically, Edward Culkins, the scout leader in question, is released from prison after doing his time and Detective Sovereign plans on keeping a close watch on him as he seems like a perfect target for someone like the Vigilante.
