Venom crouches in a menacing, coiled pose at the center of this striking 1996 cover by Steve Lightle, his massive jaws open wide and white spider-emblem gleaming against the black symbiote — every inch the predator the subtitle "City of Dreams" promises. Surrounding him is a dense, unsettling crowd of grotesque and otherworldly figures: skeletal faces, alien creatures, a large raven, and a range of distorted human visages that give the composition a genuinely eerie, dreamlike quality. It's a vivid opening image for this Len Kaminski-written limited series, with Ted Halsted on interior art bringing Venom's darker psychological side to the page.
